Other Info: In increasing length of stay: seven years in Massachusetts, eight years in southern New Jersey, 15 years in New Orleans, and 49 years in Virginia, with shorter periods in Michigan, Arizona, Tennessee, and Texas. I have held driver’s licenses in all of those states except Tennessee, where I went to boarding school. In various stretches lasting from one week to three months, about a year spent in Spanish-speaking countries. Worked on or led projects in Spain (twice), Venezuela, Brazil, and the Netherlands. Everybody involved in air traffic control worldwide speaks English, so I didn’t gain anything close to fluency in other languages.
